This Media is Suitable for both Drosophila Melanogaster and Drosophila Hydei
  • This Fruit Fly Media is designed to hold moisture.

  • With our enhanced Fruit Fly Media your cultures should produce 1000's of fruit flies!

  • Low humidity can be very harmful to fruit flies.

  • Potato Flour makes up to 60% of our Fruit Fly Media.  Potato Flour is much better than potato flakes because it can hold a lot of moisture.

  • One of the most important ingredients in any homemade fruit fly media is Brewtech Brewer’s Yeast which makes up to 30% of our Fruit Fly Media.   The yeast because it is powder, not only allows for a more thorough mix of ingredients, the media also becomes extremely nutritious for your fruit flies.  As well you have the fresh yeast smell and taste. This combination will keep the media from drying out and prematurely killing the culture.

Alfalfa Leaf Powder (Medicago Sativa)

We have added Alfalfa leaf powder to our fruit fly media because it boosts high energy levels.  This can mean more breeding with higher yields.

Millet Flour

Millet Flour is particularly high in iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.

Corn Cones

Corn is high in nutrients.  Some of these nutrients are Thiamin (Vitamin B1), Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5), Folate and Vitamin C.

Methyl Paraben

Methyl Paraben is a natural mold inhibitor derived from blueberries.

Bacteria, Fungus, and Molds compete for nutrients with the fruit flies.  By using Methyl Paraben the fruit flies are healthier, live longer and produce way more.

As well we have added one secret ingredient.  Makes the flies go crazy...why...because it gives them a tremendous amount of energy.

Baker's Yeast:

You will get one small of baker’s yeast to add to your media.

Baker’s Yeast gives the culture a kick start breaking down the organics into edible food for your fruit flies.

Please Note:

The #1 killer of fruit fly cultures is low humidity.

Our Fruit Fly Media at Insect Sales.com is one of the best in the industry.  Each bag of Fruit Fly Media contains potato flour (not the flakes),  (potato flour holds more moisture); a generous amount of brewer's yeast and one packet of bakers yeast.  This not only allows for a more thorough mix of ingredients, but it also allows the media to hold more water.  This keeps the media from drying out and prematurely killing your fruit fly culture.  This Premium Mixture is  fortified with Minerals, Trace Elements, Vitamins, and Carotenoids in order to maximize the nutritional value of Flightless Fruit Flies as they are fed to prey.

Great Smell

Our Fruit Fly Media contains two natural anti-bacterial/anti-fungal ingredients.  This eliminates the nasty smell of a bacteria/fungi infected culture. Many customers compare the smell of our cultures to freshly baked bread.

High Yields

Bacteria, Fungus, and Molds compete for nutrients with the fruit flies.  Our Fruit Fly Media fights these invaders so your fruit fly cultures produce not only more fruit flies, but healthier fruit flies. We have one of the best producing fruit fly medias on the market,
Our Fruit fly media is packed with Vitamins and Color Enhancers
We believe that healthy fruit flies lead to healthy herps.  Therefore, our Fruit Fly media is full of vitamins and color enhancers from natural sources.

Directions:

This mixing formula is based on a 32 oz. cup size

  • Mix 1/2 cup of boiling water with 2 oz. of Fruit Fly Media (BE SURE TO PRE-STIR YOUR DRY INGREDIENTS BEFORE ADDING TO YOUR WATER SO THAT THE MOLD INHIBITOR IS MIXED IN).  You need boiling water not hot tap water so the mold inhibitors activate.

  • Put this mixture in the bottom of your empty 32 oz container.
  • Pull the excelsior apart and make a handful in the shape of baseball than add this to the top of your mixture in your 32 oz. container.
  • From your already existing culture, dump approximately 50 to 100 fruit flies into your new 32 oz. container.
  • Cover the top of your new culture with vented lid or fine screen mesh or cheese cloth. Do not place in direct sunlight, near excessive heat or near a cold draft.  The culture(s) will do well at room temperature.Your culture will start producing flies in 12-14 days. If the culture seem to be drying out, add a few drops ofwater that has been aged.  (Aged water is water that has sat in a container for 24 hours).
